Dental Check-ups and Cleanings
Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are important for maintaining good oral health in children. During a check-up, the dentist will examine your child’s teeth, gums, and mouth for any signs of problems.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride treatments can help strengthen your child’s tooth enamel and prevent cavities. The dentist may apply a fluoride varnish to your child’s teeth during a dental visit.
Sealants
Dental sealants are a protective coating that can be applied to your child’s teeth to prevent cavities. The sealant is painted onto the surface of the tooth, sealing off the deep grooves and fissures where bacteria can hide.
Fillings
If your child has a cavity, the dentist may need to fill it with a dental filling. Fillings can be made from a variety of materials, including tooth-colored composite resin, silver amalgam, or gold.
Extractions
In some cases, a child’s tooth may need to be extracted (pulled) if it is badly decayed or damaged. The dentist will numb the area with a local anesthetic before removing the tooth.
Orthodontics Treatments
If your child has crooked or misaligned teeth, the dentist may recommend orthodontic treatment. This can include braces, retainers, or other appliances that help straighten the teeth and correct the bite.
Emergency Dental Care
If your child experiences a dental emergency, such as a knocked-out tooth or severe toothache, the dentist can provide immediate care to help relieve pain and prevent further damage.
